Traumatic Brain Injury Program

PERSONALIZED, GOALS-DIRECTED CARE

The traumatic brain injury (TBI) program at our Willow Creek Rehabilitation and Care Center was created in the mid 1980s to address the widespread damage that occurs as a result of traumatic or acquired brain injury. The program currently provides care to over 35 patients in a specially designated unit that also offers subacute care.

TBI patients typically have major physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges and require an intensive and specialized rehabilitation program. The TBI program at Willow Creek provides categorical goals-directed services, structured to meet the needs of each resident.

The goal of the TBI program at Willow Creek is to help prevent or minimize disabilities, and to restore as much of our patients’ physical, cognitive, and behavioral functions as possible, within their personal, family and community contexts.

OUR TBI PROGRAM AND TEAM

Our TBI team at Willow Creek includes a medical director,
a neuro-psychiatrist, and a physiatrist who closely monitor each individual’s medical, psychiatric and rehabilitative status. Care is intensive, integrated and unique to the individual.

• An individualized program is created for each patient, tailored to his or her individual needs. Patients may participate in therapy for up to two or more hours per day, working on daily living skills, including as walking, talking, reasoning, making decisions and other cognitive skills.



• Physical, occupational, speech therapy and neuropsychology may be included in the TBI program.



• The patient's care team and nurses will also meet with family members to help them understand the process of recovery from a brain injury and to help them cope with any changes in the patient as a result of the injury.
